  • Missing days from work or unexplained disappearances during shift
  • Unexplained disappearances on the job, can't be found when needed
  • Job shrinkage, doing the minimum work necessary for the job
  • Elaborate, implausible excuses for behavior
  • Mood swings from isolation to angry outbursts,
  • Altered concentration, decrease in problem solving abilities
  • Consistently volunteering to be the medication nurse
  • Increase in patient complaints of unrelieved pain
  • Patient charting reflects excessive use of PRN pain medication compared to shifts when other nurses are assigned to the same patient
  • Marked nervousness on the job
  • Pattern of absences that center around scheduled days off
